Simple Insertion Mode

The Simple Insertion Mode can be used to insert text, date & time, and serial numbers at any position of the filename. Please note that the preview window will be updated only when you press return after entering the insertion text.

Text: You can specify any text which is to be inserted into the filename. SDLRename will automatically replace any invalid characters (such as colons, or slashes) by underscores.
System Date/Time: Inserts the current system date and time. The format is controlled by various special template characters. Any character being not a format specifier will be inserted as is. Please be sure to format the date and time in a way that the resulting filename is compatible to the correct syntax. SDLRename will automatically replace any invalid characters (such as colons, or slashes) by underscores.
File Date/Time: Inserts the date and time of the last modification of the file. The format is controlled by various special template characters. Any character being not a format specifier will be inserted as is. Please be sure to format the date and time in a way that the resulting filename is compatible to the correct syntax. SDLRename will automatically replace any invalid characters (such as colons, or slashes) by underscores.
Serial Number: In order to insert a serial number you have to specify the starting number and the number of digits used for the serial number. The serial number is inserted with leading zeros.

Position of insertion

The string may be inserted n characters

  • after the beginning of the filename
  • before the end of the filename
  • before the file extension dot
  • after the file extension dot

If you specify a position which exceeds the length of the filename, it will be adjusted automatically to fit into the filename. Selecting the third or the fourth option (insert relative to the file extension dot) requires a file extension to be present. Filenames without extension will not be affected by the insertion command.
